Friday, February 12th, 2016 Day 2

Today at lunch, there will be popcorn, chocolate, and drinks sold in the lower foyer.

Congrats to the Westside Boys Hockey Team on their BIG 4-3 overtime win yesterday over Lourdes. The boys were down 3-0 and battled back to win. Shoutouts to Johnny Martin, Liam Raymond, Patty Sonoski and Andrew Reynolds for their big goals. The boys will now play in the league semi-finals on Tuesday vs. Centre Wellington.

Congratulations to the Westside swimming team who had a 5th place finish as a team and had all swimmers qualify for CWOSSA. Well done team.

As a reminder to all students parking in the Westside SS parking lot, you must have a valid parking pass, and must park in a parking spot with yellow lines on both sides. All students who currently have a parking pass must come to the office before the end of the day today in order to continue parking this semester.

Attention Grade 10 & 11 Students Writing the Literacy Test this year…
Anyone still wanting to sign up for the “pass the test” program can do so in student services today. Please see Mrs.Will by the end of the day today. The program starts on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, this week, the Boys Curling team played in the District 4 playdowns. They beat Wellington Heights easily in the first game but lost a close game in the final to Centre Dufferin. The boys played very well yesterday and have made great gains during the year. Great work boys.

If you were born in 1998 and got a letter from Public Health, or feel you have outstanding vaccines, please attend the immunization clinic at our school next Tuesday (that’s February 16th) to update your records and get immunized. The clinic begins at 9:30 AM in the Library Seminar Room.

The Video Games, Anime, and Reading Clubs will resume in the library seminar room next week.

There will be a yearbook meeting at lunch next Tuesday Feb 16 in room 212.

A reminder that the improv club will be meeting today at lunch in the theatre. All are welcome!

 Thursday, February 11th, 2016 Day 1

Course selection assemblies
today. Grade 10 classes, slot B. Grade 9 classes, slot C. Teachers, please bring classes to the Theatre at the beginning of the period. Assemblies will be about 30 minutes.

There will be a yearbook meeting next week on Tuesday at lunch.

It’s Gameday Westside! Come support our boys hockey team as they take on Lourdes in their Quarter-final playoff matchup at Alder arena at 3pm.

Congratulations to all members of the Wrestling Team who competed at Districts yesterday. 5 out of 6 wrestlers will be competing at CWOSSA next week. Tom Roberts, Tyler Anderson and Natasha Naismith all earned gold medals and Austin Lake and Steven Gallagher won Bronze. Well done all wrestlers!

The construction workshop will be open today after school from 3 until 5. Construction students who wish to finish projects or help with workshop projects are welcome to attend. Be sure to bring PPE. Reminder that there is a Junior Band rehearsal today after school. And don’t forget that there is a Jazz band rehearsal tomorrow morning at 8 am.

Are you writing the literacy test this year? Would you like a little extra help to prepare for it?
Westside is running a Literacy test preparation program called the “Pass the Test Program.” This is a free course that will run after school from 3:00-4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting next Tuesday, February 16th, for 5 weeks. New this year, we are also offering a late bus on those days, so you can catch the bus home after the program, at 4:30pm. If you think some extra practice would help you be successful on the Literacy Test, please sign up for the program with Mrs. Will in Student Services by the end of the week.

The Stage Crew for the production of Dracula will meet today at 3:00 in the Construction Shop. We will be looking at the production schedule for the build of the show. All students who have shown interest in working on the show are required to attend. New students are welcome to attend.

Swimming meeting for Districts today in room 325 at lunch today. Be there.

There will be chocolate candy grams for Valentine’s Day sold in the lower foyer at lunch all week long.

Library Volunteers - please see Mrs. Hahn or Mrs. Crawford in the library by Friday if you want to earn volunteer hours in the library or to confirm you will continue for semester two as there is a waiting list and your time may be given to another student.

Listen up Westside, Mocha our therapy dog in training successfully completed her puppy classes last night. Mocha was the star of the class, performing 30 commands in a row without treats or rewards, showing off her skills, and winning all of her competitive races! Mocha’s focus was impressive even under the pressure and distractions of her many puppy classmates and their owners. She finished with the title “Smartest dog in the class”! Congratulations Mocha we are so proud of you!

 Tuesday, February 9th, 2016 Day 1

Wrestlers are reminded of the weigh-in at the end of the day today….please be prompt.

During slot B today, students will receive information today about selecting their courses for next year. On Thursday, there will be course selection assemblies for grade 9 and 10 students to help them make appropriate choices for next year. Course selection will be due on Friday Feb 26th.

There are still slots available for the Dracula Auditions! Please check the theatre door to make sure you show up for your assigned day! Auditions will run from Today to Thursday at lunch! All are called next Tuesday at lunch and after school from 3-4:30 (Feb 16)! Break a Leg during your audition.

 Monday, February 8th, 2016 Day 2

Any grade 10 or 11 students interested in the Vimy Ridge Europe Trip next year, please come to a mandatory meeting today at lunch in room 321.

All of Chef Wilson’s classes will meet in the cafeteria today.

All of Mrs. Cox’s classes will be in Portable 4 today.

The boys curling team competed in the Gore School Boys Regional Bonspiel this past weekend. They played some of their best games of the year and beat the host team, but were unable to advance to the next round. Great work guys.

Today is the LAST day to sign up for the DRACULA AUDITIONS! There is a list on the theatre door, please sign up today so we can complete the cast list by the end of this week. Rehearsals will begin next Tuesday (Feb 16), at lunch and after school.

The Gender and Sexuality Club will also meet in the theatre today at lunch!

Mrs. Cox’s Block A & D classes are in the library today.

Students going on the Senior trip to Washington have a mandatory meeting today at lunch in room 321.

Timetables for semester #2 will be given out during last period today. Please see Mr. Sippel or Mrs Kirkland if you have any questions. Any students with Block D spare may pick up their timetables last period in student services.
