Draftsperson – Mechanical

Description:
Draftspersons develop and prepare accurate and detailed engineering drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, calculations, specifications sheets and other data. These technical drawings describe size, shape, function of objects, and their structure. Mechanical Draftspersons use computer-aided design and graphics drafting stations to make drawings for industrial machines, machine parts, engines, tools and other mechanical equipment.
Education, Training, Experience and Skills Required:
- Grade 10 education or ministry-approved equivalent (many employers recommend Grade 12)
- Completion of a four year apprenticeship program
- To be successful, you will need communication, mechanical and problem-solving skills
- Recommended high school courses include: English, mathematics, science, design technology, manufacturing technology
How to get Apprentice Certification:
- Complete a four year apprenticeship program
- Complete the terms of the Apprenticeship Contract to receive Certificate of Apprenticeship
- There is NO Certificate of Qualification or Interprovincial (Red Seal) Trade Certification available

Salary Expectations:
Range from $13 to $25 per hour
