Board Passes Motion of Intent

Trustees confirmed their motion of intent to implement the   U10 Staff Variation   scenario to accommodate the growing South Guelph French Immersion program and balance enrolments of both regular track (English) and FI students among schools in the area.

A second motion of intent to close FA Hamilton Public School to English-language (regular track) students was also passed. This motion will also be confirmed at the August 31 meeting.

Concerns raised by the families of gifted students at Waverley Drive prompted trustees to direct staff to consult with the families of these students about the possibility of grandfathering them at Waverley Drive. The results of this consultation will be provided at the August board meeting.

A series of implementation motions will also be forthcoming including those that will find a temporary home for grade 7 and 8 English students as a result of the rebuilding of King George PS during the 2011-12 school year.

At the May 25, 2010 meeting of the Board, trustees will consider a Motion of Intent to adopt Scenario U10 (Staff Variation) for the outcome of the Central Guelph (FI) Accommodation Review. This motion of intent was presented at the May 11th meeting of the Board's Business Operations Committee and will be confirmed, or not confirmed, at the meeting on Tuesday.

If the Board confirms their intent, a new Motion of Intent to close F.A. Hamilton PS to regular track students effective September 1, 2011 will be considered. If both motions pass, the Board will make a final decision on these issues at the August 31, 2010 Board Meeting.

ARC Beginning to Shortlist Scenarios

At their last meeting on February 3, 2010, the ARC started to focus in on specific scenarios for the shortlist.  There are approximately 45 scenarios, which include the four original Staff scenarios, numerous scenarios submitted by the Public and some scenarios developed by the ARC members.  Over the next two meetings, the ARC will decide which shortlisted scenarios will be sent to Board staff for a more detailed analysis.  These shortlisted scenarios will be presented at an upcoming Public Meeting tentatively scheduled for March 10, 2010 (stay tuned for meeting date, time and location to be posted on the website).  It was also confirmed that the deadline for recommending a plan for the move of the King George 7/8 FI students has passed.  As a result, both the English and FI grade 7/8 students will stay at King George for the 2010/2011 school year.
