Parenting Fair held at Credit Meadows Elementary School
Credit Meadows Elementary School held the PRO Grant funded Parenting Fair "Helping Your Child Succeed At School" on May 2, 2009. The event was to run from 10- 2 p.m. It was held at the school in Orangeville.
Parents had the opportunity to attend 3 workshops for a 30 minute presentation with a 15 minute Q & A following the presentation.
A variety of speakers who included teachers and local professionals spoke on topics such as Overcoming Math Phobia, Media and Technology in the Classroom, Anxiety in Children, Dealing with Bullying, Getting Ready for High School and Nutrition and Children. There was also a keynote speaker.
The event was publicized in a variety of ways. There were three newspaper notices, flyers were posted in local stores and around the school, word of mouth, in the school newsletter twice and a e-mail sent out to families of the school. Childcare, refreshments and a light lunch (all no cost)were also mentioned in the flyers. The parents found the workshops they attended to be very informative. We decided to shorten the event.
A questionnaire /evaluation form was supplied to those that attended. We used information/suggestions gathered from the last Parent Fair (2007 ProGrant) questionnaire to plan this event.
All I can say is that I am glad that council had the opportunity to provide this event for our school and the community!
