Mind and body the focus of parenting fair
On Wednesday February 26th James McQueen PS held a “Parenting Learning Fair.” This event was funded by the Ministry’s Parents Reaching Out grant.
Two seminars were scheduled. Seminar one was presented by a local Public Health Nurse and a local Dietitian. They spoke to the topic of healthy eating for students and families alike, with details on how to read food labels, daily intake guidelines of certain foods and products. They also provided suggestions for what parents can pack in their children’s lunches.
Seminar 2 was entitled “Time 2Read” and was presented by James McQueen’s kindergarten teacher. In this two hour session the importance of reading with your children and the processes to follow were explored. A portion of this session involved the children, resulting in and “interactive” seminar for both parents and children.
The School Council provided childcare and supplied coffee and treats for the attendees. Parents that were able to attend were very pleased with the information they received and are looking forward to the next Learning Fair scheduled for April.
