Aberfoyle creates new resource for welcoming families to the school community
September 2007 marked the first time in Aberfoyle history that a non-traditional resource was created and used for welcoming new families to the school.
In the spring of 2007 Aberfoyle Public School was awarded a $3,000 grant for a Welcome Package proposal under the Parents Reaching Out (PRO) initiative. The package consisted of a:
- reusable bag customized with the Aberfoyle logo
- a novel appropriate to primary/junior or intermediate students
- a brochure highlighting pertinent information about the school and community
- a magnet with the school logo and coordinates
- a customized Aberfoyle pencil
- eraser
- reusable plastic snack container with a Lunch Box ABC’s tip sheet
Due to the rural nature of our school we are continuously striving to reach out to parents via new avenues. The grant funding allowed us to support and foster our culture in which parents at Aberfoyle are partner’s in their child’s education. This package supported and promoted our “come in and see us” culture at Aberfoyle. This package supported a positive first experience and contained information that “answered all the unanswered questions”. Feedback from new families was incredibly positive. They truly thought Aberfoyle was special because of the warm welcome!
Special thanks goes to administration, parent volunteers and our extended community for ensuring the Welcome Package initiative was a huge success. With support from these partners we maximized the use of grant funds to create a tangible high quality practical resource.
