Toonies for Tummies

Friday, March 2 is "Toonies for Tummies" Day in support of our school snack bin program. We are fortunate to have funding to operate a snack bin program so all students at our school have the opportunity to have a healthy snack to start their school day. The fundraising day on March 2 encourages each student to pledge to "Live Free" of a luxury (a food they particularly like to eat, an activity they like to engage in, etc.) for one day and donate a toonie on this day. Proceeds help fund our snack program.

Math unit

We have begun our math unit on multiplication and division, and review sheets were sent in Home Folders on Friday. We have only spent two math classes considering two-digit multiplication so far and this skill is proving to be very new and challenging to most students. Students should become more familiar with it over the next week or so but most multiplication questions on the review sheets will probably still be a bit overwhelming for students to complete independently yet. Feel free to talk your child through some problems if you want them to get a start on the review sheets. I am anticipating we will be ready to move on to division the week of February 27th, and we may need to postpone the date of our test. I will keep you posted!

2D Shape Test

We have been putting many hours and a lot of effort into measuring angles, drawing triangles and classifying triangles according to their side length (equilateral, scalene, isoceles) and according to their angles (acute, obtuse, right angle). Some students still require some extra practice with these concepts so we will take an extra day at school to review and allow students the chance to ask for extra assistance with anything they might still be struggling with. Voluntary extra help sessions were run today at recess and one is planned for tomorrow (Tuesday) at second recess as well. Should any students still need further individual practice on Wednesday, one will be run then too. We will write our shape test on Thursday this week instead of Wednesday. I have strongly encouraged all students to take some time at home over the next few evenings as well to do a little extra practice with the unit review sheets.
