Notes for Absences

Aizan is an automated system that will place a call home if a student has been marked absent in one or more classes even if a note, a call or an e-mail has been sent by a parent. Parents must confirm the reason for the student’s absence by leaving a message on the school’s answering machine or by sending a note with the student the next day for a full day absence. If NO contact is made by the parent, the student is automatically considered truant for 4 classes. Notes need to be sent with a student if that student has an appointment during the school day. Please remember that students must sign in and out.

Planning a Vacation?

If your future plans include a family vacation of 15 or more consecutive school days, please notify the Principal/Vice Principal in writing of your plans, in accordance with Ministry of Education guidelines. Please refer to Regulation 298 Section 23.2 of the Education Act for more detail. For shorter vacations, we would ask that parents and students complete our Request for Temporary Withdrawal form so that teachers are aware of absences and can provide work for the time missed. Please be aware of the Exam Schedule for January and June ,which is published by the Board in the early spring, and plan any vacations so they do not coincide with exams. (These dates are posted on the Board website and in the Norwell Student Handbook.)

The Harvest Table is a local butcher shop specializing in local meat and other goods, located in the heart of rural Ontario at Parker. Their goal is to provide local meat and other food by working with farmers, growers, producers and suppliers, some of whom may have sons or daughters at Norwell. The Harvest Table is a full butcher shop with a master butcher on site who prepares all cuts of meat, sausage and burgers. Their focus is on local meat and quality cuts, prepared without additives, preservatives, or fillers. There is a line of nitrate free goods as well as gluten free products. The retail outlet has a wide variety of beef, pork, chicken, lamb, turkey, veal and fish as well as other grocery items including jam, honey, cheese, fresh baking, dressings, bbq sauces and so much more.

The following is how you, your relatives, friends and neighbours can support some Norwell students all year by simply making purchases at The Harvest Table. When you purchase goods at the store or come to enjoy a meal at the Bistro, identify yourself as a Norwell supporter and the store will donate a portion to Norwell’s Athletes in the School Community Work Transition Program (SCWTP). For every $50.00 purchase, The Harvest Table donates 3% to the school, and for every $100.00 purchase the donation will be 5%. The store is located at the corner of Wellington Roads 7 and 12. The store is open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm, and Saturday 8 am until 5 pm. Check out the store at www.theharvesttable.ca or call 519-638-5000. Please share this information.

Student Accident Insurance

 Permanent link

The Upper Grand District School Board does not provide accident insurance coverage for student injuries that occur on school premises or during school activities. Under the Education Act, the Board is empowered to make available an Accident and Life Insurance Program for students. The Board has selected Reliable Life Insurance Company to provide Student Accident Insurance for the 2014-2015 school year. This program offers a variety of plans and benefits at affordable annual prices.

Student Accident Insurance or Extended Health and Dental coverage is strongly recommended for all students, especially students participating in extra-curricular athletics. All students participating in out-of-province and/or out-of-country field trips will require Student Accident Insurance or Extended Health coverage.

Application forms and Acknowledgments were sent home in September to all students. If you have not done so please complete the purple 2014/2015 STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE ACKNOWLEDGMENT form and return it to the office as soon as possible.
