Open Country, Open Arms, and Open Minds....

Norwell District Secondary School is ready to open its doors to the world!  Our school's mission and vision is to inspire curiosity, and to promote life long learning and global citizenship.  An excellent step in meeting this goal is to collaborate in our classrooms with students from around the world, to invite them into our community and to work together to build a better understanding of the benefits of global citizenship.  We hope to have up to 15 international students join us in our vision starting in the fall of 2015.  These students will learn in our classes for the year, be a part of our school trips, join our sports teams, and live in our community.  In order to meet this goal, however, we also need your help! Our international students will need homes in which to live.

Canada Homestay is UGDSB's official partner in connecting international students with homes.  They ensure that costs connected with room and board are covered, and that families and students are partnered according to the needs of both parties.  See the Canada Homestay website for more information:  http://www.canadahomestayinternational.com/becomingahost.html

If you are interested in this exciting opportunity to becoming a host family for our international school program please join us at Norwell DSS on December 2, 2014 at 7pm in our Library.

Michelle Fits, the UGDSB Canada Homestay representative will be here to discuss the opportunity and  process of becoming a host family.  An UGDSB representative will also be here to discuss the International Student Program, and to share stories about who these great kids are, and where they are from.  We are making the world a smaller place, I hope you can join us!

EQAO PRACTICE TEST

 Dear Parents/Guardians:

Each year, the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) conducts the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT).  This provincial test measures the performance of grade 10 students on the reading and writing expectations in all subjects up to, and including, grade 9.  Successful completion of the OSSLT is a graduation requirement.

This year, the OSSLT will be administered on Thursday, March 26, 2015 in the morning.  Attendance on this day is mandatory for all grade 10 students and re-writers.
