May 2012 News

This is a year of transition and we will soon be saying good-bye to old friends and preparing for a new year. To help us prepare for 2012-2013, the staff at Edward Johnson completed a School Self-Assessment on the April 23rd P.A. day. Discussions included the need to continue to build partnerships between the school and the community in order to enhance learning opportunities for students and the importance of "student voice" in decision making. We will encourage parents to become involved whether in classrooms, the School Council, by helping at special events or by sharing your ideas with us. Your attendance at assemblies and special days is much appreciated. Next year we hope to encourage parents even more in the life of the school. If you are interested in finding out more about our school, you are invited to attend our May and June School Council meetings. Studies show that students are more successful when parents are actively involved in their education. We value your support!

We also know that taking the time to listen to what our students have to say and hearing their "voice" helps to engage them in learning. When we take time in the classroom and in the office to hear our students opinions and understand their interests then we develop their self-confidence and their willingness to learn, support each other and solve problems. This is another area of focus for the coming year.

We hope you have a wonderful month of May. Please feel welcome to attend our Education Week events.

Yours truly,
Anne Lehoux
