This is an exciting month with Read with Us Week, Dance-a-thon Kick-Off and Character Education assemblies.
Kindergarten Registration Week
New JK/SK parents should register for September 2010 at John Mcrae School during the week of February 1-5, 2010.
Parents registering for JK or SK must complete the STUDENT ADMISSION FORM, which is found on the Board website or can be picked up at the school. On registering in person, the following information must also be provided:
- Proof of Birth Date: Birth Certificate/Canadian Citizenship/ Permanent Resident Card.
- Proof of and full address: driver's license, purchase/rental agreement, bank statement, hydro bill.
- Immunization Record ( completed ).
Parents are urged to apply for a birth certificate as soon as possible. There must be proof of the birthdate before a student can legally attend school.
Read with Us Week/Lisons ensemble
Our annual Read With Us Week takes place during the week of February 8-12. School Council member and parent Tanya McCuen has organized special activities for the week. Professional storytellers, Guelph Storm players, firefighters and Cinderella will be reading stories to our students! Parents are invited to read in your child's classroom on Friday, February 12. This is also our annual Pyjama Day. A poster contest and trivia contest are planned as well. Please refer to the calendar attached to the February newsletter for details.
Character Education Assemblies
On Friday, February 12 we will celebrate Fairness and Respect at our Character Education assemblies. The Primary assembly is at 11:05 and the Junior assembly is at 12:00 . Parents are welcome to join us!
Dance-a-thon Kick-Off
Our annual Dance-a-thon takes place on Thursday, March 11. School Council member and parent Janene Sarabura is organizing this event with the help of other parents. If you are interested in helping, please contact the school. The event helps raise funds for Lesotho and for curriculum resources.
The Kick-Off assembly will take place on Tuesday, February 23rd at 9:15 a.m. Stephen Kendall, from the organization Help Lesotho will present slides and current information about our twin school in Lesotho, Paray School. last year we dpnated $5000 for the purchase of warm clothing for some of the students of Paray School. This year we would like to do the same.
As well as Stephen Kendall's visit, the Kick-Off assembly will feature Grade 6 students dancing and singing and will launch the fundraising campaign. Please feel welcome to join us.
Term 2 Reports
Report cards for term 2 for all students in SK - Grade 6 will go home on Tuesday, March 9 or Wednesday, March 10.
Haiti Relief Collection
Thanks to all of our students and parents who contributed to our “Loonies & Twoonies Collection”. We collected $1638. With the government’s matching funds, that will be $3276 being sent to Haiti through the Red Cross. Well done!
Climate Surveys
Thank you to all the parents who participated in the school climate survey. Your input is appreciated. Results of the survey from the parents, students, and staff will be reviewed by our Safe Schools Committee.
