Ross Succeeds at Kiwanis Festival!
This year has been an outstanding time for the John F. Ross Music Department. Our choirs excelled in each of their categories, earning a Gold Standard for their contrasting pieces. In particular, the Concert Choir achieved a berth in the Provincial Finals with their performances of "It's a Grand Night for Singing", "Get to Bed", "Song for the Mira" and the popular "21 Guns" from Green Day.
Congratulations to the Ross Royals Intermediate Band! This group of Grade 9 and 10 students performed extremely well last week at the Guelph Kiwanis Festival. They were up against some extremely talented groups from Guelph, Brantford and Hamilton. However, a spectacular rendition of "King Across the Water" featuring hand drumming and a hauntingly beautiful performance of "Blue and Green Music" had the adjudicator raving about their tuning, blend and musicality. The band was awarded a Gold Standard and qualified for the Ontario Music Festivals Provincial competition to be held in Peterborough. Excellent work everyone and we look forward to hearing the results in June.
The overall results were as follows:
CHOIRS - at St. George's Anglican Church
Concert Choir (D. Hobbs) SATB School Choir Category - Gold (Provincial Finalists)
Concert Choir (D. Hobbs) Musical Theatre Category - Gold
Junior Mixed Class Choir (D. Hobbs) - Gold
Junior Female Class Choir (D. Hobbs) - Gold
BANDS - at The Salvation Army Citadel
Senior Concert Band (T. Wilson) - Gold
Royal Jazz (T. Wilson) - Gold
Intermediate Band (D. Vreeswyk-Kidd) - Gold (Provincial finalists)
Instrumental Ensembles (D. Vreeswyk-Kidd) - Outstanding performances in non-competitive classes.
