Last Week of School!!

 Permanent link

Can you believe we are now into the last week of the school year for 2011-2012! We hope everyone has had a wonderful year, and that the summer brings many great adventures.

There are lots of fun activities planned for this final week of school. Here's the lineup:

Tuesday

*   Our rescheduled Play Day (good call, Ms. Haines - last week was brutally hot, but this week is perfect for outdoor activities)

*   Ultimate Frisbee tournament

*   Kindergarten Graduation

Wednesday

*   Grade 8 Graduation and Dance - lots of excitement down in the Intermediate hall this week!

*   Kindergarten Graduation

Thursday

*   Year-end assembly - we will be holding 2 identical (or at least similar!) assemblies in order to have room for any parents who wish to    attend.

Period 1 (9:00-9:40) will be attended by our kindergarten students up to Grade 4. Period 2 (9:40-10:30) is for students in Grades 5 to 8. Parents are welcome. In the assembly, we will have a choir performance, a short skit, a Grade 8 class performance, and presentation of the Special Olympics medal. In addition, there will be special recognition of our wonderful retiring teachers, Mrs. O'Connor, Mme De Avila, and Mrs. Tubbs.

Friday is a P.D. Day, so for students and families, the holidays start at 3:10 on Thursday!

Parents, please be sure to drop by and look in our Lost and Found box - we still have some winter coats and snow pants hanging around!!

Thanks for another great year at Jean Little Public School!

Play Day Postponed

heat waveAs we face our third day of very high temperatures and wicked humidity, we decided to postpone our annual Play Day until next Tuesday (when it is forecast that we'll have comfortable temperatures in the low 20's and no humidex to speak of). A note was sent home today as a reminder to bring sunscreen, hats, waterbottles and running shoes that day. Thanks for understanding!  Stay cool!

Home Safe and Sound

The weary travellers have returned! We are all looking forward to hearing the stories and seeing all the pictures on Monday. Wishing all the Grade 8 students and their chaperones a nice, restful weekend!

Almost Home!

 Permanent link
Just heard from the Grade 8 bus - they've just come off the 407 onto the 401, and should be pulling into the Jean Little driveway in about 30 minutes. Almost here!

So where are they now??

We heard from the Grade 8 voyageurs! At approximately 4:00, they were passing Kingston. Soon, they will stop for a quick bite of dinner then on the road again. They must have had a great time, because Mrs. Kent tells us that it's very quiet on the bus (just the sound of gentle snoring!). Check back here again - we'll let you know when they get to Mississauga (about 45 minutes away), then again when they are approaching the Guelph exit from the 401 (about 15-20 minutes away), so you have a good idea of when they'll roll up in front of the school.

The 2012 Talent Show schedule is ready.  Click here if you would like to read the schedule.  The date of the talent show is Friday, June 22, 2012 in the gymnasium.

They're Arrived!

Hot off the press! We just heard from Mme De Avila who texted to say they have all arrived safely in Quebec City. Parents, be sure to check back here on the day of their return - we will let you know when they have arrived in the Kingston area, when they are in Mississauga, and when they are about 15 minutes from home. That way you'll have a good idea of when to come to the school to pick them up!

Have fun, everyone!

Attention Grade 8 Students!

You are invited to Centennial's grade 9 orientation day on Thursday August 30th. On this day students can meet their teachers and mentors, pay their $50 registration fee, pick up their timetable and have their school ID photo taken. This is always an exciting morning for students, as they get one step closer to their first week of high school!

The countdown to Quebec continues...

ONE MORE WEEK!!

At our May 11th assembly, students were provided a copy of their itinerary (white or yellow) and a "Travel Tips" packing list with the Code of Conduct reminder (blue).  Students and parents are advised to review these packages in case there are any questions or concerns prior to departure.

Please note that students will NOT have access to wireless Internet at the hotel and are advised to disable Data Plans on their cell phones so as not to incur possible roaming charges.

Please look forward to hearing from your children first thing in the morning or later in the evening as the use of electronic devices (besides a camera) during tours and activities would be exceptionally RUDE!

Students will meet in the school gymnasium at 6:15 am on Monday morning to check-in with their chaperones.  Bus boarding begins at 6:30 am and the bus leaves at 7:00 am sharp.

IF YOU ARRIVE AT SCHOOL AT 7:00 am, YOU WILL NOT BE TRAVELING WITH US TO QUEBEC!

Get ready to have a fabulous week!

(This goes for parents, too - hee hee!)

Guelph Police Bicycle Rodeo

 Permanent link

Our annual bicycle rodeo, run by our School Safety Officers Frank and Robin, will be held on June 7 at 1:45 pm. June 7 is going to be a busy day around here!

Students in grades 4 through 6 who wish to participate should bring their bicycles and helmets (both in good working order). Sharing of helmets is discouraged (for hygiene reasons). There will be a boys' and a girls' division, with prizes awarded to the top 3 cyclists in each. First place participants will represent Jean Little at the city-wide rodeo at Victoria Road Recreation Centre later in June.

With summer just around the corner, this is a great time of year to be reinforcing safe cycling practices. We hope to see many of our junior students participating in the rodeo this year.
