'Express Yourself', Jean Little Style!

Seussical Jr.School musicals have been a long standing tradition at Jean Little. Each show brings to life the many talents of our students. Over 70 singers, dancers, actors, musicians and students with technological expertise work together to create a unique educational experience. These shows would not be possible without the unwavering support of our administration and parent council. Shows like this take vision and a commitment to students needs. Over the past 10 years, our community has graciously purchased instruments, sheet music, props, costumes, sound systems and specialized lighting. Thank you benefactors of Jean Little Public School!

Education Week 2011: Jean Little Public School proudly presents the musical, Seussical Jr. May 3rd, 4th, 5th, 2011. Please call the school for tickets. All tickets are $5.00.

Severe Weather Information

While the heat of summer feels far off in the distance right now, it will be here sooner than we think. With the change of seasons, we often experience some severe weather. We help children feel prepared for these weather events by holding tornado drills and discussing outdoor safety practices. If you are interested in more information about this, please click here for an interesting article on severe summer weather.

Attention Grade 8 Students and Parents

ccvi

Once again, Centennial CVI is running its annual Grade 8 Spring Event! On the evening of April 27, Grade 8 students and their parents are invited to drop by the high school to see what Centennial is all about, as well as easing the transition from elementary to high school. The staff of Centennial hope to get as many Grade 8's involved as they can, from all of their feeder schools. And we do mean "involved"! There are two ways in which our students can actually take part in activities that evening ...

1.   Coffee House

This fun event runs throughout the whole evening, showcasing both Centennial talent but also that of any Grade 8 student who wishes to perform. The audience in the "cafetorium" is always warm and receptive, not at all intimidating. Students can sing, play an instrument, drum, dance, etc.

2.   Athletic Activities

Future Spartans (Grade 8's) and current Junior Spartans (Grade 9's and 10's) will team up in the gym for a fun game of basketball. This is a great way for our athletes to meet future coaches and teammates, and get excited about trying out for Centennial teams. Anyone can participate - students do not need to be even thinking about joining a team to play - all for fun!

If you think your child would be interested in participating in either of these two events, please discuss it with them and let us know before April 15 (which is when we need to pass the names of participants along to the high school).

In addition to these two events that require signing up, there are many other things going on at the school that evening. Grade 8's will have the chance to meet current CCVI students and staff, and hear about all the extracurricular activities and clubs that are available at the school. Also on hand for introductions and to provide some information to incoming students will be the school's Public Health Nurse, the Child and Youth Counsellors, the school Social Worker, the School Safety Officer from the Guelph Police Service, and the school's Drug and Alcohol Counsellor.  Every department in the school will offer displays to show what goes on throughout the year (something to look forward to!), and there will be school tours running every half hour.

For our Grade 8's, this is an evening not to be missed! For those who are a little anxious about the transition, this should help alleviate these feelings, and for those who are not, the evening should get them even more excited about this big step in their (and your) lives!

So mark your calendars - Wednesday, April 27 from 7:00-9:00 pm. Drop in when you can.
