It is very exciting to be starting our second week of school!
New schedules will be given out tomorrow, and now that that is solidified, more information can be shared.
For curriculum documents, parents can check out www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/elementary/
Our first unit in Math will be Number Relationships for grade 8 and Factors and Exponents for grade 7.
In English, both grades will be focussing on inferencing, summary writing, identifying the main idea, universal themes in literature, making connections, identifying literary devices, identifying character traits, identifying elements of a story, using expressive reading and identifying irony. We will be looking at various stories by O. Henry. Students are also currently working on an I Am From collage poem. Ask your child what that is about!
Open House will be on Wednesday, September 19.
A trip survey went home with the children on Friday. Please fill out the survey and return asap.
Homework assignments will be posted on the white board in my room, as well as on the blog. Students are encouraged to write down homework in a notebook if they find they are forgetting items when they get home.
Homework Club is every Tuesday and Thursday after school, from 3:10 - 4:30 in room 21 and the computer lab. It is open to all students in Grades 6,7 and 8. It's a great way for students to get extra help, to work on group assignments together, or simply to complete assignments at school. Of course, there is a teacher there to help them.
Book orders went home today. They are due on September 18.
