Use of Aerosol Deodorant

 Permanent link

Dear Families,
A number of our intermediate students have been using aerosol deodorant after gym classes. Some students and staff have had reactions to the aerosol in particular. So, please do not send aerosol deodorant to school with your children. Stick deodorant is acceptable for use in a public school. (And we DO encourage our older students to use deodorant!)

Thank you.

Annual Guelph Police Bicycle Ticket Program

 Permanent link

The 15th Annual Guelph Police Bicycle Ticket Program will begin Wednesday, May 1st, 2013 and will run until Thursday August 1st, 2013.

This program is designed to promote awareness to Guelph youth of the benefits of wearing bicycle helmets while riding their bike through positive reinforcement. While officers are on proactive patrol, when they see a child wearing their bike helmet, they will stop the youth and reward them with a ticket for a free, NEW Dairy Queen “Smoothie®” courtesy of Dairy Queen Guelph.

The child will then be eligible to win a free bike, courtesy of George Vettor Cycle, on August 1st, 2013. The program is geared towards children aged 4-13 years old.

In the first 14 years of this program the Guelph Police Service has issued over 15,434 tickets to the youth in Guelph and given away 28 free bikes. Each year, a male and female winner is chosen.

April 2013 News

 Permanent link

Dear Families,
In spring we will complete 3 fire drills, 1 lock down drill and 1 tornado drill. Developing emergency procedures at home is a good idea, too. The following link has some useful information: http://www.getprepared.gc.ca/index-eng.aspx.

There is a PD Day on April 22nd. On this day teachers will continue to look at three part problem solving across the curriculum and how to use descriptive feedback to assist in writing report comments. We will also be working on our School Improvement Plan. A parent survey will be sent out later this month to get your input on how we're doing at JLPS.
