EQAO – Primary and Junior Years Assessment

If your child is in grade three or six at Drayton Heights, he or she will be participating in the EQAO assessment for Reading, Writing and Mathematics between May 28 – June 5. For the most part, the testing will take place each morning. In order for the testing to be valid, students must complete all portions of the assessment. It is difficult to “catch kids up” if they miss a day during the testing. If at all possible, we ask you to avoid pulling students out of classes during these times. If you have any questions about the assessment, the format, content or how students are evaluated, please contact your child’s teacher. You can also visit www.eqao.com to learn more.

A brief reminder that today (Thursday, April 25) is the day to pick up your fundraising orders (Elmira Poultry, Harriston Packers, and MacMillans) from the school gym. Pick up is between 3:30 to 6:00pm in the gym. Thank you for your support of our school !!

If you are coming to make your pick-up anywhere between 3:30 and 4:00, for the safety of our students, please remember that our bus-lane is not accessible to personal vehicles.

With the coming of warmer weather, it is great to see our students out on the yard enjoying the soccer fields, baseball diamonds, basketball courts, mini-foot-hockey, and exploring more areas now that have been recently "freed" of snow. With the increase in students bringing items for outdoor use, I would ask that students be sure to put their names on any of their own equipment (balls, skipping ropes, ball gloves, etc...) that they bring to enjoy recess breaks.

As part of our recess routines, I have been making regular morning announcements to students to remind them to come prepared to play outside whenever it is not teeming-rain. This is also a very good time to remind our youngsters to be prepared to start wearing sunscreen and hats to protect them from the sun, which we hope will be warming and drying our school yard.

Should you wish there to be a change to your child's regular routine (arrival, pick-up, lunch-hour), I would ask that a signed note come from a child's parent. In this way, we are certain of your expectation for your child(ren), and we eliminate any confusion for your youngster.

Jeff Crawford,
Principal

Lockdown Drill Revisited

 Permanent link

Good Morning Families and Friends of Drayton Heights PS,

I am sending this as a brief update to our lockdown drills at Drayton Heights. Due to our snowy weather and bus cancellations last Thursday (January 31st), we postponed that planned lockdown drill to this afternoon. The staff and students are aware of the practise this afternoon, and I will be placing signs on the school entry doors indicating that we are participating in a voluntary lockdown drill, to inform visitors why the entrance doors are locked.

I wanted to inform you of this change so that you may be prepared if your child wishes to discuss the practise with you in the evening. Please don't hesitate to contact the school if you have questions or comments about this safety drill.

Best Regards,
Jeff Crawford
