Due to high demand for skilled welders and machinists, your industrial community cannot fill positions locally for its welding and machining needs. Entry level welders and machinists i.e. grade 12 graduates with 5 to 6 months of our training, can make in excess of $30,000 per year. Experienced welders and machinists have more opportunities for rapid advancement than many other career paths.
Welding and machining/CNC training is provided LJP Skills Training Inc. (a M.E.T Certified Private Vocational School) in partnership with the Upper Grand District School Board, the Wellington Catholic District School Board, HRDC, and over 200 local industries. Student loans are available for these Programs. More and more females are becoming qualified and making "top dollar" in both welding and machining.
Adults can work toward their O.S.S.D. while pursuing their welding or machining certificates.
Our machine shop/CNC skills training Program offers students 19 weeks of practical hands-on experience in the shop and a 5 week work placement opportunity which provides on-the-job training. Students are given a research project during their Job Search class that leads them through a thorough study of machining companies to create an "Employer Top Ten List". Ideally students choose a work placement host from this list so if their work placement term evolves into a full time job offer.
It is a positive situation for all parties.
