LINC child-minding program

Arrangements for childminding are to be made through the Immigrant Services Gueph Wellington. Please contact them at 519-836-2222.

St. George’s Centre for ESL operates Infant, Toddler and Preschool childminding programs for children ages 6 months to 60 months of age.

Main roles:

  • Provision of a caring and respectful environment that facilitates child development
  • Prepares newcomer children with English language and other school readiness skills.
  • Runs concurrent with the Centre’s ESL day classes.
  • Enables parents or guardians to attend LINC classes at the Centre.
  • A well-planned program supervised by four instructors
  • Program includes crafts, indoor riding equipment, climbers, puzzles and group time with songs, games and monthly themes.

Facilities:

The Child Care Centre features a large room (divided by age categories: ages 6 months to 18 months old; 19 months to 30 months old; 31 months to 60 months old) for the children to have fun and experience new things.

The Centre has it own food preparation and washroom for the children.

Staff:

The Child Care Centre’s experienced program instructors have a range of certifications, including:

  • Early Childhood Education (ECE)
  • Child and Youth Worker
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training are requisite qualifications.

Activities:

The Childminding program includes structured and free play indoor and outdoor activities. For each week of a month there is a theme and a plan of activities covering areas such as gross motor, dramatic play, circle time, etc. The morning and afternoon schedules are:

Morning
8:45 - 9:00 – room preparation
9:00 - 9:30 – welcome / indoor free play / tidy up
9:30 - 10:05 – circle time / craft / activity
10:05 - 10:15 – quiet reading / snack preparation
10:15 - 10:30 – break / snack
10:30 - 11:20 – dress up / outdoor free play
11:20 - 11:30 – tidy up

Afternoon
12:25 - 12:30 – room preparation
12:30 - 1:30 – welcome / outdoor free play / tidy up
1:30 - 1:45 – quiet reading / snack preparation
1:45 - 2:00 – break / snack
2:00 - 2:20 – indoor free play / tidy up
2:20 - 2:50 – circle time / craft / activity
2:50 - 3:00 – quiet reading

Fees:

The program is free of charge for Landed Immigrants/Permanent Residents and Convention Refugees who are attending the Centre’s LINC classes.

Hours:

Mon. – Fri: 9:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M.

Additional Information:

The Childminding program is provided by the Upper Grand District School Board and funded by through Citizenship & Immigration Canada’s Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada external link (LINC) program.
