Opened in 1877, Central School was Guelph's first senior public
school. Built of local limestone, it had 16 classrooms and could accommodate 960
students.
It was demolished in 1968 and replaced by the present modern school building.
Famous graduates of Central School include Colonel John McCrae and opera singer
Edward Johnson.
