Important Updates

A couple of important updates before the summer break:

1) We have 33 confirmed passengers on our Tour - well done! I expect 3-4 more will sign up in the FALL & then we can look towards registering any ADULTS who may wish to join us on the Tour!

2) We have a commitment form the DCMA that a Veteran will be accompanying us on the Tour - this individual has yet to be nominated.

3) We have had NO ONE complain about the idea of the Day 13 in Austria, so I will likely firm that up in September for the additional cost quoted on your itinerary.

4) All deposit & insurance cheques will be processed in the next 10-14 days, so look for that to occur shortly. All registration forms will be sent to Brightspark shortly as well. Please be sure to get any Passports needed done
THIS summer - & don't forget your Museum Visits! The Summer Programs at the DCMA are FREE to any CDDHS Battlefields Students...all you need to do is introduce yourself at the Front Desk!!
........Also, be sure to get your Veteran identified soon - the DCMA Staff are ready to help you!

5) We have had a bit of a problem with the link to the website on the UGDSB webpage - thanks to the work of Ms. Norlen, I think we are up & running now for the summer. If you haven't checked us out yet, then please do & remember to do so periodically over the summer. I will be blogging from Europe on my travels, so expect to see some hints about our 2013 Tour on the Website in August.

Here is the revised link::

Keep in touch & have a splendid summer.

Many thanks,

Details on Student Summer Research Work at the DCMA

We has a great first Field Trip to the Dufferin County Museum and Archives (DCMA)on Monday May 22nd. Twenty five of our trip participants joined Kayla Mantle and the DCMA Staff to do sample research work to begin the process of "Finding a Veteran"
1) Now its essential that all student participants in the Battlefields Tour have a veteran identified and contacted by the end of summer 2012
2) You should plan on a minimum of two visits to the DCMA over this summer - please identify yourself as a 'Battlefields Student" at the Reception Area when you arrive - you will not be charged admission!
3) Please use the documents that are included here to help you as you begin to research. There are GREAT tips on the Instructions Form - the volunteers/staff downstairs in the DCMA Archives will assist you with all your needs. Please remember to complete and hand in the Research Release form.
4) Do your best to follow the timeline as well....and have a great summer!

Welcome to the CDDHS/DCMA Battlefields Tour 2013 Homepage!

It’s 18 months till we travel on this fantastic Tour of France, Belgium and Germany, but the time will fly! This webpage is going to be updated regularly with the help of our school webmaster, Ms. Norlen.

The blog posts will keep you informed as the months go by, announce meeting dates, issue urgent notifications about changes (like a potential Day 13 decision!) and offer some gentle reminders where necessary.

Here are some forms you need to read now. Parent info from May 22 meeting  Registration Form Credit Card info and changes to forms from May 22 meeting Itinerary  Step by Step Decision Making

I will be in Europe this summer checking on certain parts of the itinerary and also teaching at the Juno Beach Centre in France – so don’t be surprised if I post some updates while I am there!

Please be sure to check this site regularly during the summer and be prepared for matters to really pick-up in September 2012 when we are back at school – there will be a meeting in the first week of October which will be our first chance to see the whole ‘family’ of students and adult guests together.

Until then, please consult the forms & updates available on our menu and enjoy a wonderful summer....but don’t forget to save your money!!

The DCMA is offering two special workshops for High School students who wish to 'dig-deep' into researching their veteran - a great chance to get a head-start on your 2013 Battlefields work!

Just follow the link to the DCMA 2012 Events Calendar and check out the workshops hosted by Kayla Mantle (CDDHS Grad!).  Kayla will be leading these workshops on Tuesday July 10th and Thursday July 12th - entitled "Dufferin County & Canadian Identity".

We'll get a chance to start this work on the June 11th field trip to the museum, but this would be an extra opportunity to get your research completed.

Don’t worry about the cost right now - we're working on a 'student special' for you!
