An interesting article in the New York Times magazine provides an in-depth discussion of character traits that appear to predict success for students beyond elementary and high school.  The Paul Tough article is titled  What if the Secret to Success is Failure?

Effective management of professional sports involves strong leadership skills but also a significant amount of statistical analysis, financial managment (and some good luck).  The next Hockey Leadership assignment will include the design and drafting of an NHL hockey pool which will involve weekly trades and on-going analysis.  Some interesting links include nhl.com's recommendations for Fantasy Hockey Pools.

Leadership students will prepare a presentation with a partner to present a detailed plan to rebuild a program for Lokomotiv of the KHL in the wake of the tragic plane crash on September 7, 2011.  Click here for a description of the assignment.

The on-ice schedule for the Hockey Skills Academy is available on the calendar at the Hockey Leadership page or a condensed version is available here.   Ice times are cancelled in the event of a snow day.  Most times are from 1:00 until 2:30 but some morning times (from 9:30 to 11:00) are booked when afternoon conflicts occur for ice bookings.

 A Flag Rugby program is being developed by Leadership students at CDDHS to provide teaching opportunities for high school students and learning opportunities for grade 7 and 8 classes this fall. Implementation will begin by early October.

The second $200 cheque for registration for the Hockey Canada Skills Academy is due September 15th.  Please make cheques payable to CDDHS and have your son or daughter bring them to school as soon as possible.
