Please contact Mrs. D. Ridge if you are interested in AP Chemistry
The AP Chemistry course is the equivalent of first year college or university general chemistry. For some students, this course enables them to undertake, as freshmen, second-year work in the chemistry sequence at their institution or to register in courses in other fields where general chemistry is a prerequisite. For other students, the AP Chemistry course fulfills the laboratory science requirement and frees time for other courses.
Method of Course Delivery
Although the chemistry program at Centennial covers a great deal of the AP program content, there are a small number of topics which are not covered. In addition, the level of evaluation is not as rigorous. AP candidates will be provided with a detailed content outline and schedule which they will use to review the SCH OAC/4U1/4UE content as well as cover missing topics. Weekly tutorial sessions, periodic AP level problem sets and practice tests will enable the student to prepare for the AP exam in May.
Centennial's standard two year academic chemistry program covers the laboratory requirements of the AP Chemistry program. Potential AP candidates should, as a matter of general practice, put extra effort into the quality and overall appearance of their laboratory work. In addition, they should keep a portfolio of their laboratory write ups as some Universities may wish to verify the level and extent of the laboratory experience.
