| Student Win Provincial Championship and reach National finals! |
CCVI offering Same-Gender Classrooms |
Centennial Students Excel at Mapping Contest! |
Our reach team continued to roll at the Provincial championships. The team won the championship, which is an amazing accomplishment. The win allowed the team to move on the national championships. The boys were proud to win the semi-final (handily) over their arch rivals from Lisgar in Ottawa (a previous National Champion) and came so close to winning the final. It was a matter of 2 questions & the other team buzzed in sooner. Note that most of the other teams in the championship came from private schools or gifted magnet schools.
Congratulate Dan, Kefei David, Ian, & Cooper on their amazing accomplishments. |

| Achonwa makes a statement at the NCAA tourney |
CCVI has its own March Madness! |
School Reach Team brings home the title again! |
Former Spartan, Natalie Achonwa was part of an unbelievable run to the NCAA women's championship game. Natalie, a freshmen, played a vital role in Notre Dame's run to the final. Contributing in every game during the tournament, she made a huge impact. This run capped off an unbelievable season for Natalie. Her team knocked off the defending National Champions in the semi-finals, in game that very few thought they would win. Her individual stats were amazing. She had a great field goal percentage throughout the season and was one of the team's top rebounders. These stats helped her be named to the Big East All- Rookie team, which is the top conference in women's basketball. The sky is the limit for this former Spartan athlete. Congratulations Natalie on an amazing freshmen season. |
During the last week of March, Centennial had its own version of March Madness. Students were involved in a 3 on 3 competition at the start of the week and the week ended with a final of the tournament, plus a large game of bump. The bump contest involved around 50 students and the winner was of the event was Tarang. In the 3 on 3 final, the game was close to start with. Both teams were hitting many three's. However, in the end the team of Brandon, Tarang, and Jay won the competition. Strong shooting by Brandon and Tarang at the end carried the team to victory. |
Centennial sent four teams to this year's Guelph-Cambridge Reach for the Top Academic Trivia competition. The team's dedication to the event showed through the amazing results. Teams finished first, second, third and sixth overall. Team Centennial One played against Centennial Two in the championship and won. The team will go on to the Provincial Championships to be held in May in Toronto. Team One members are Daniel, Kefei, Ian, David, and Cooper. |

Spartans win OFSAA swimming!
Spartan girls rule the pool. In a thrilling 2 day OFSSA swimming championship, the Centennial Spartans made both school and OFSSA history. Of the 12 Spartan swimmers who qualified, 8 were classified in the OPEN category. With one outstanding performance after another this small but mighty group of young ladies, won the combined OPEN OFSAA CHAMPIONSHIP beating out the second place team by over 100 points. In the 200 open medley relay Katherin, Erin, Micayley and Haylie smashed the OFSAA record by 6 seconds to capture gold. Erin went on to lead the team in individual events breaking another OFSAA record to win gold in the 100 breast and a silver in 100 back. Samantha also graced the podium finishing second in the 200 IM and 9th in the 100 fly. Other outstanding swims included Micayley who placed 4th in 100 fly and 8th in 200 free, Haylie 5th in 100 IM, Katherine was 6th in 50 free and 8th in 100 back, Riley was 4th in 100 breast and 100 IM. The open 4 x 100 free relay of Riley, Emma, Alicia, and Samantha closed the 2011 OFSAA championship for the Spartans with their 5th place finish. Adding to the points total in the high school division was Chloe, Rachel, Madison and Cammi who placed 7th in the 200 medley relay. In the overall team combined open and high school categories, Centennial placed a very respectable 7th out of 155 teams. What makes these results even more impressive is that 7 of the 8 open swimmers were juniors who had to compete against 5th year seniors and the 4 high school swimmers were all juniors. Congratulations Spartans on making swimming history, the sky is the limit. |

Pam Fellows retires from teaching
Ms. Pam Fellows began teaching at CCVI in 1999 as a member of the English department. Her love of learning and her passion for literature inspired her students. Ms. Fellows worked hard to ensure that the students were able to connect the literature to their personal experiences in order to make the work more relevant to them. What made Ms. Fellows an exceptional teacher was her concern for her students’ well being. She spent a great deal of time outside of the classroom helping those students who needed extra attention and guidance.
In 2010, in her final semester at CCVI, Ms. Fellows returned to the English classroom and to her love of literature. Once again, she was teaching the dangers of ambition in Macbeth, and the need for forgiveness in The Glass Castle.
Ms. Fellows is now embarking on another chapter in her life, which will of course be full of literature, including the opportunity for her to pursue her own writing. We wish Ms. Fellows all the best and thank her for her generosity, her wit, and her passion for teaching. We know she will continue to share her love of learning. |

Passion for Fashion
On January 7th, the school's BOH class hosted a charity event. Approximately 150 people attended the event at the Holiday Inn. The group raised $3000 for Breast Cancer research. The guests ate a delicious dinner, were entertained by some lovely music and then a fabulous fashion show. There were a variety of clothing worn down the catwalk, including a pink nightgown by our VP Mr. Shaw. It was an amazing event and everyone should be proud of what was accomplished.

On September 30th, Centennial celebrated another Spirit Day in style. With hundreds of Spartans dressed in Purple and Gold, our school showed its true colours once again. Many students organized themselves to create t-shirts that would spell the word the "Spartans". As well, two students dressed up as yellow bananas and wore purple spandex underneath. As the class day ended many staff and students formed the traditional tunnel and our athletes ran through it once again. It was a great day!
