James McQueen Public School is a mid-sized school located in an older section of Fergus. It was the first school in town and was named after the first School Headmaster.
The present building has undergone additions and retrofits on at least three occasions, the last one being in the early 1980's. It is a single storey structure that has large classrooms (with adjoining coat rooms) and a beautiful Resource Centre/ Computer Lab. The school is known for its warm and inviting atmosphere. The building takes up most of a entire block in town, but this leaves us with a small playground that has been completely paved.
Our student population is not very diverse ethnically, but there is a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. Classes are from JK to grade six in the English program and from JK to grade four in the French Immersion program. Several students with Special Needs add to our wonderfully distinct community of learners.
At the end of grade four our French Immersion students go to J.D. Hogarth P.S., followed by our English students at the end of grade six.
At James McQueen we take great pride in our traditions of the past, but we look eagerly towards the future.
