Trustees approve boundary for new Lee Street school
GUELPH, Ontario -- The boundary has been set for a proposed new JK-8 elementary school in the east end of Guelph, taking effect in September 2013. Trustees approved the school’s attendance area at their meeting on May 22.
The Upper Grand District School Board expects to construct the school at Lee Street and Cityview Drive North in time for a September 2014 opening.
All JK to Grade 6 students destined for the new school will be attending the newly-built King George (Holding) school for the 2013-14 school year before moving into Lee Street. Those who qualify by Board policy will receive transportation to King George.
The new Lee Street school will relieve overcrowding at nearby Ken Danby P.S., which is projected to be about 300 students over capacity by 2014.
The Lee Street Boundary Review was launched in January with an initial report that provided background information and enrolment forecasts for the area, and wrapped up with Report #3 and the final Scenario “C”.
The approved scenario creates a school boundary that it is largely west of Starwood Drive, but also includes some homes east of Starwood. The details can be viewed on on maps 3 and 4 in Report #3. A modified boundary for Ken Danby is on map 5.
There are also slight modifications to the attendance areas for Ottawa Crescent P.S. and Laurine Avenue P.S., taking effect in September 2012 (maps 6 and 7). Due to construction at Laurine Avenue in 2012-2013 those students will be attending King George in that year.
Input from the public was a big part of the review. Over 60 parents attended the public information session, and more comments were received through the online feedback form. A summary of the Q&A at the information session and written comments received are all reproduced in the review’s final report.
The Lee Street Boundary Review Report #3 is available on the Board’s website:
