Education Week 2012

Education Week is an annual event celebrated by school boards and schools across the province. It is a time for students, teachers and parents to celebrate teaching excellence and student achievement. In keeping with past years, Education Week in our Board will run from mid-April to mid-May to allow schools more flexibility in planning events and activities. Believing, Discovering, Succeeding…Together 

Theme

This year’s theme is: “Believing, Discovering, Succeeding…Together /Croyons, découvrons, réussissons…ensemble”.

Official Opening

The official opening ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday May 7th at Centre Peel P.S/Centre Peel S.S. located at 7623 Sixth Line, R.R. #2, Drayton, Ontario.

Events

The following are events planned at UGDSB schools:

Alma P.S.
Open House - Wednesday, May 9th at 9:30-10:00am & 12:00-1pm. Other activities at Alma P.S. during Education week include: a Bicycle Rodeo - learning and practising bicycle safety while rotating to several outside stations,Nature Walks, Scientist in the Classroom visits, and primary learning buddies getting together with junior buddies for math games.

College Heights S.S.
Annual Spring Sale featuring Metal Works, Woodworking, Foods, Baked Goods and a Plant Sale
Thursday, May 10th - Plant Sale Only - 2pm to 6pm
Friday, May 11th - Plant Sale, BBQ, Baking, Woodworking, and Welding - 12pm to 6pm
Friday, May 11th - Tribute to the 80's Live Concert at 1pm
Saturday, May 12th - Plant Sale, BBQ, Baking, Woodworking, and Welding - 8am to 1pm

Open House - Thursday, May 10th, 6:00 - 7:15pm

John McCrae P.S.
May 9th - 15th - Kristen Fahrig an artist from Toronto sponsored by the Ontario Arts Council will be working with some of our primary and junior classes.
Thursday, May 10th - Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart will get your heart pumping and your calves aching!
Friday, May 11th - Staff will learn about Collaborative Problem Solving in order to better facilitate this important life skill with our students.
Tuesday, May 15th - "A Night Among The Stars" -  Choirs, bands and musical performances immersed in a gallery of art await all who come out on this special night.
Wednesday, May 16th - Grade 7 and 8 students will work with our community police officers on the new VIP program designed for this age group
Thursday, May 17th - Kindergarten Learning Fair - A festive evening designed to welcome our newest John McCrae students.
May 17th - 18th - Our grade 7 students travel to Niagara for a cultural and historical tour of the area.
Friday, May 18th - Junior Track and Field Day

Ottawa Crescent P.S.
Are you IN or are you OUT? with Guest Speaker: Chris D'Sousa - Tuesday, May 8th, 6:30 - 8pm. This workshop will focus on Human Rights and Inclusion. It is designed to help Students and Parents understand that they have the power to make a difference in their schools and community. Arts Day - Monday, May 7th, 11:05-12:45. Teachers will put on workshops with an 'arts' theme. Students can choose the workshops they wish to participate in.
Open House and Book Fair - Thurdsday, May 10th, 6:30 - 8pm

Annual Spring Fling - Thursday, May 10th, 5:30-7:30 p.m. The Event will feature face-painting, BBQ, Cake walk, basket raffles, scooter board races and more!
