]]>This year I will be giving up television for the day. I usually watch my favourite British soap “Coronation Street” every night. On Friday I will Live Free of television and “Corrie” and donate a twoonie. I encourage others to think of what they will live without that day!

]]>The Staff parking lot is available for use by parents for an extended stay at Gateway (parent/teacher interview, day volunteer, class trip volunteer). Please do not use this area for drop off or pick up.
Parents of older students are asked to kindly park along the side streets and wait for their children to cross at the crosswalk, keeping the limited parking spots available to for the younger families with Kindergarten pickups.
Do not park along the left side of the driveway at the front of the school and near the entrance. This blocks the fire route and bus zone areas.
Keeping our students safe is everyone’s responsibility. Encourage your children to walk to school as often as possible. Please read the attached letter from the Guelph Police which emphasizes these points.

]]>A huge thank you to School Council members for organizing our “Fall Fest” Celebration and BBQ. This is an event families look forward to annually and it creates that wonderful sense of community. No wonder Gateway Drive P.S. is a wonderful place to be!
If you have an interest in making a contribution, consider joining us at School Council. It’s a great way to become involved in your child’s education and really make a difference. Council meets once per month to discuss educational issues that impact Gateway school and organize events to enrich student programs. Our October meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 17th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Gateway staff room.

]]>In this “Gator Gazette”, be sure to take special note of the safety reminders about: student safe arrival, limited school driveway access and peanut product alert. These items are important to make sure all students are safe.
Please, remember at this time classroom organization is tentative and a possible classroom reorganization could take place mid September.
Make sure to join us Wednesday, September 19th, at 5:15 for the Gateway Fall Fest. Come celebrate the beginning of another learning year! Information about this event will be coming home soon!

Thank you to the wonderful parent community whose generosity and caring for children is truly special and contributes so much to the positive school culture. ]]>Also thank you to Mr Trevor Dick and our own Gateway School Orchestra members for entertaining us. Both the junior and senior orchestra have been busy.
The junior orchestra played at the 50th anniversary of Royal City Nursery. It was a lovely day and patrons were well entertained by our group of students.
Our senior orchestra opened a Guelph Council meeting by playing O’Canada on May 28th and both groups performed at the School’s Spring Fling Celebration of the Arts.
As well as the orchestra, we have many
exciting things happening at Gateway Drive

]]>Please be sure to take time this month to complete the parent survey about our school. Our grades 4-8 students will also be completing a survey here at School. These surveys provide us with valuable information as we plan for the future at Gateway Drive PS.
At this time we begin to look to the next school year. For next year we need a breakfast club coordinator. Mrs. Melissa Ashwell has done an excellent job this year but needs to turn the role over to someone else. If you think you would be interested please let us know. If you are not sure come for a visit during breakfast club and you may decide this is for you. This is an important and worthwhile program at our School…let’s make sure it continues.

I find it hard to believe I am writing the
November Newsletter! Time is certainly flying
by. We have had a busy October and are
heading into an equally busy November. Staff
and students continue to work together to
achieve wonderful things with the support of our
larger community and dedicated parents and
guardians.

Fall Fest was a wonderful night for the Gateway
Drive Public School Community. Thank you to
all the wonderful families who attended our “Fall
Fest” celebration hosted by our School Council,
in partnership with the amazing Gateway staff!
Hats off to the parents, staff and students who
volunteered their time to make it happen!
Despite the rain we had a wonderful turnout.
Once again thank you to everyone who
supported this event through their attendance
and participation as well as those who worked
so hard to make it happen.

The Guelph Police School Safety Office has received numerous complaints from elementary schools with regard to the safety of their students before and after school. The primary problems are congestion of vehicles in bus loading areas, areas that prohibit vehicle parking and stopping and excessive speed in school zones.
