Dear parents, as we get closer to the end of school, we are in need of some help with a few items.  At this moment, we require all graduation grade 8's to bring a picture of themselves for the slide show as well as some pictures from the past year.  If every student could bring in one or two, it would help us greatly.  Likewise, if there are any parents willing to help with graduation this year, your support would gladly be accepted. You only need to email me directly and we'll sit down as a group to discuss some ideas.

Tonight students are working on Mathj, chapter 5.4 to the end.

Have a great night!

Good afternoon,

Students had a great day, we had our annual standards day and each of our students worked hard at a number of events. Students were given a participation award and a number of our grade eights won ribbons for individual accomplishments.

No homework tonight other than some math if they didn't finish last night's homework.

Have a great night!

Good evening all,

Just a quick note tonight.  Students have math, chapter 5.3 questions 1-8 for homework.  Likewise, I've asked students to do some research on retired general Romeo Dallaire of the Canadian Army, and more specifically commander in chief during the United Nations campaign in Somalia.  Focus on the 5 w's with significant focus on his peace keeping in Somalia.  We are beginning a unit on tolerance and understanding with respect to societal conflict etc.  Also, just a note that we are still experiencing a significant lack of effort in our secondary subjects like Science.  A number of students are not bothering to even take notes during lectures!  I find them doodling in books, not even bothering to be involved in the discussions!  We are still in May and school doesn't end until the end of June. I encourage every parent to speak to your child, find out what they are doing in class, ask how they are taking ownership!

Just a reminder that tomorrow is East Gary's track and field day and Friday is our talent show.

Have a great night!

Students have math, chapter 5.1 to the end of the chapter for homework.  Students did not do well on their Algebra Unit test.  Even after significant reminders to follow up on chapter problems and questions, many students did not practice or study for the test.  We discussed how important it is to finish strong to the end of the year and to not give up so early as many of these concepts will be applied in highschool.  The mean for this test was 68% with an average score of30.8/45.  The max score was 42 and the minimum was 18.5; there were 4 students who achieved 80% or above and 6 students who achieved less than 50%.  I hope to see an improvement with effort and interest as we move towards June, we won't stop the learning opportunities until the end of June- I hope we can concentrate our efforts going forward.  Just a reminder that some Brock forms are still not in, and those students who are not going to Brock, we ask that you forward in the note sent home asking to confirm whether or not they would be at school for those three days.  Please just send a note in if you don't have the form.

Problem of the night! Your mom sends you into the store to buy a can of tomatoes for her very special Tuesday night spaghetti.  She tells you to get the best value for the money.  The two choices for tomatoes are:  No Name tomatoes at 750 ml for $.99 or the Aylmer Tomatoes at 1.25 litres for $1.39.  Which one would you buy to get the better value?  Tell me why for a sweet treat!

Have a good night!

Happy Birthday Maisie!  For those of you who haven't seen or heard me talk about my kids, my baby girl turns six today.  Time sure does fly when you are having fun.  Tonight, students have some math homework, chapter 5.1 questions 1-12 plus the get ready section.  Students have a Science project due on Friday- many haven't even begun to build or design their projects and that is only about 1/4 of the job.  We will have some more class time but we are really in a crunch!  Also, I'm pleading with students to please get their Brock forms in by tomorrow.  The due date for forms was last friday.  Also, students in grade 8 have been invited to Westside Highschool for what is called "Westfest".  Westside bands will be playing music and there is a bbq and drinks being offered for a small cost.  Westside has asked students to bring some toonies and loonies as they are doing some fundraising to pay for the event.  More information to follow going forward.

Have a great night East Gary 8's!

Just a quick note to parents.  I am still seeing a very large portion of the class who are not completing homework.  Please speak to your son/daughter about homework assignments and the importance of handing work in on time and with care.

Thank you.

Congratulations to the East Gary Skills team who went to the Ontario Skills Challenge held at RIM park in Waterloo.  The competitors were all very good, and East Gary was just inched out of the podium.  We had a great showing this year and we should all be very proud of our many accomplishments!  Way to go!
