Afternoon all,  just wanted to pass along my heartfel best wishes for a safe and fun break this holiday.  I know people will be out and about enjoying themselves with family and friends, please take time to reflect on your family, do something togeter and share some quality time.  Likewise, take your son/daughter out and do something for the community.  It could be as simple as picking up litter in a park or donating your time at a foodbank.

I want to give a big shout out to our turkey shoot winners, J and K.  Both are donating their turkey to Family transition place in Orangeville so they too can have a great dinner at Christmas. I'm very proud of both of you, it takes a selfless person to give without notice or receipt.

No homework tonight, we are finishing up a small unit in language and math and putting the rest on hold until the new year.

Have a great night and a great holiday!

Cheers!

Only 9 more shopping days till the big day.  Where did the time go?!  Hope everyone is well tonight.  Just a note that we have grad pictures day booked for February 1st, 2011.  Yes, that time again.  Also, we have some parent night information for January as well as course selections for our grade 8's moving to grade nine.  Tonight, students have some math and language to finish as well as some science and French.  Students have chapter 4.2 1-8 in math and those who did not finish their sequential paragraphs for the life cycle of a butterfly, need to do that.  In science, students had a number of review questions to finish as well as some diagrams of a plant and animal cell.  Students have some research documentation to finish in French- they know what the expectation is.

Hope all is well! Have a great night!

Good evening all,  tonight students have a bit of homework, they should be finsihing off their sequential text structures assignement and they have questions 1-8 in chapter four of the text.  In language, students need to finish off a paragraph on outlining the steps to making a sundae.  They need to include rich vocabulary when setting up topic sentences, sequence steps and clincher statements.  In Math, students received their marked math tests and have embarked on a new Data management unit looking at Probability.  We've discussed the differences between probability and odds and how companies sometimes mislead the general public into believing they have a realistic chance of winning a contest or lottery by posting the "odds" of winning a prize.  As we know, the probability of winning a prize is very different from the odds and should always be considered when calculating the likelihood of an event happening. Just a reminder that our seasons have changed- we still have students coming to school in shorts and sweaters.  Please consider appropriate clothing as a condition of attending school.  If there was a fire or an issue on the bus and a student is inappropriately dressed, there could be serious consequences for that student when exposed to the elements.  Thanks for the consideration.

Have a great night!

Good afternoon all,  if you didn't know, we had the Rick Hansen relay team drive past East Garafraxa.  Unfortunately, they were through after the kids left for home.  It was a really neat event and we were glad that they stopped by.  We are going to make a video up of the event to show the kids during an assembly.  Tonight, I would like students to keep working on their math for the upcoming math test.  I've delayed the test until Thursday as I think we need a bit more time to consolidate some of the ideas.  Therefore, students will see a culminating assessment on Thursday.

Have a great night!

Good evening all,

Tonight students have some math to work on as they have a unit test on Wednesday.  Students should be finishing up chapter 3.5 in the text and then work on some of the review and practice test.  Some students are struggling with mixed fractions and improper fractions as well as using the order of operations when working through problems.  Please sit and discuss some of the strategies in the text and see if you can help with some of the basic ideas.

Have a great night!

Good Evening all,

Tonight students need to do some work on their culminating language activity which is a front page recreation of a newspaper.  The main focus are the styles of writing we've looked at which include focusing on the five w's.  Tomorrow students will put the final touches on their creation and then hand it in for assessment.

Have a great night!
